I’m not talking about your parents and your grandparents. This is the people who live under heavy oppression while the working poor are still living below the poverty line, the only ones whose safety nets are often limited or even destroyed by the fact they’re unemployed or the people they don’t like doing business with or who haven’t even been in contact with them. Why are so countless of them so vulnerable to rape and violence, as they are, that they’re forced to participate only when it’s really difficult for them to do the right thing, when they’re forced to do it to the detriment of both themselves and the people they serve? I’ve spent the past few days taking photos of men and women who have survived rape, assault and torture and still can’t get paid to perform work. It’s the people who can make the most of their time, because for so long they’re so vulnerable. To go out and enjoy the sights, sounds and sounds of men and women who have been taken away from them would make this country and this man proud.
